Conference Topic
The use of videoconferencing in criminal proceedings is not a new phenomenon. In many countries, remote procedural activities have been in practice for decades. The current question is whether videoconferencing, allowing remote participation of trial participants, particularly the defendant, can serve as a reasonable alternative to physical presence or perhaps even be viewed not just as an extraordinary solution, but as a tool enabling the regular functioning of courts and other procedural bodies.
This topic will be the focus of the „Navigating the Promises and Perils of Videoconferencing in Criminal Proceedings” conference. This event is the second in the „New Horizons of the Criminal Process” series held in Gdańsk, dedicated to the widely discussed issue of videoconferencing in criminal trials.
The conference is directly linked to a research project conducted by the Department of Criminal Procedure and Forensic Science at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk.
